In case you have not heard, the IU School of Informatics will be hosting a web design/development event at the ICTC on IUPUI’s campus. This will be the second year for Refresh Weekend, a 48-hour event that brings together undergrads from the School of Informatics, web professionals from the Indianapolis area, and charitable organizations from the Indianapolis area. Last year’s event was a great success, with three teams designing and building websites for three local non-profits.
Last year’s teams had five people each: two professionals, two students, and a video editor. Now, the organizers are shooting for five teams, each with their own project. The event is essentially a lock-in at the IT building. Participants are required to remain at the event for the full 48-hour duration.
If you are an Informatics student at IU Bloomington or IUPUI or a web design/development professional, consider heading over to the Refresh Indy site and volunteering. The next event will start at 5:30pm on Friday, January 14, 2011 and end at 5:30pm on Sunday the 16th. It is a fun and exciting event that gives people with design and development skills to give back to the community while making social and professional connections at the same time.
I participated in Refresh Weekend in January 2010 and it was a blast. I am definitely volunteering for this next event.
